Our Mandate

To champion women's economic empowerment, reduce poverty among vulnerable households, promote gender equity in community participation, and provide social protection for widows, single mothers, persons with disabilities, and other at-risk groups — aligned with the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), SDG 1 (No Poverty), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

Core Functions

1. Women's Economic Empowerment

  • Linking women to skills acquisition programmes, vocational trainings, and small-scale enterprise support
  • Encouraging access to micro-credit, cooperative schemes, and empowerment projects
  • Supporting women's participation in leadership and decision-making at community level

2. Poverty Reduction and Livelihoods

  • Coordinating local aspects of poverty alleviation programmes
  • Identifying poor and vulnerable households for inclusion in empowerment or support schemes
  • Partnering with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector for livelihood programmes

3. Protection and Social Inclusion

  • Promoting awareness on the rights of women and children
  • Encouraging the reporting and addressing of gender-based violence through appropriate channels
  • Ensuring programmes are inclusive of widows, single mothers, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups

4. Advocacy and Community Engagement

  • Working with community and religious leaders to promote gender equity and family wellbeing
  • Organising community dialogues, sensitisation campaigns, and commemorative events
