Empowering Local Government Staff: The ICT Training Initiative in Lagos Island
In a commendable initiative to enhance digital literacy, the Lagos Island ICT Unit has rolled out another comprehensive training program for its staff. This program, designed for 30 participants in batches, focuses on computer appreciation and practical workshops. The training is made possible through the generous support of the Lagos Island LGA Chairman, Hon. Adetoyese Tijani Olusi, who has consistently shown commitment to empowering the community through education.
This initiative is a testament to the commitment of the Lagos Island LGA’s Management and Executive Council to foster an environment of continuous learning and skill development. By investing in their staff’s digital education, they are not only enhancing individual capabilities but also fortifying the community’s potential to thrive in an increasingly digitalized global landscape.
The ICT Unit of Lagos Island LGA, led by the proficient Engr. Abdulai Ahmed Obafemi, with the support of his assistant, Mr. Ewedunmoye Olumide, and other members of the ICT team orchestrated this initiative.
The vocational study center, steered by Principal Mrs. Agboola and in support, Mr. Adeyemi (tutor), served as the nurturing ground for this educational endeavor.
The workshop which was commenced with an insightful session on computer appreciation, deftly conducted by Engr. Abdulai A. Obafemi, who elucidated the significance of digital competence in today’s world. The participants were introduced to the indispensable Microsoft Office tools, a skillset crucial for modern-day professional environments, the skills to create, edit, and manage documents effectively. Mr. Adeyemi guided the participants through the intricacies of Microsoft Word, empowering them with the ability to craft and format documents effectively. Principal Agboola plays a pivotal role in the training, ensuring that participants gain a thorough understanding of Microsoft Excel’s functionalities complemented this by providing an in-depth exploration of Excel, enabling the staff to navigate and utilize spreadsheets with confidence.
Supporting the training is a dedicated team of ICT professionals, including Ewedunmoye Olumide, the ICT assistant, and other ICT team member, who assists participants in navigating the practical aspects of the workshop. This hands-on approach ensures that staff members not only learn the theoretical aspects of computer applications but also apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
The training was meticulously designed to be hands-on, ensuring that even beginners could grasp the concepts and apply them practically.
Upon completion, each participant received a flash drive equipped with learning software packages, allowing them to continue honing their skills independently. In recognition of their dedication and newly acquired expertise, certificates of participation shall be awarded, symbolizing their readiness to embrace the digital world.
